Joseph Schulle, from Marosvásárhely, Transylvania , Dezsö Kovacs from Sopron , Zsolt Szabó, Sándor Nagy from Debreczen, Hungary and Thomas, Gabor Pirity a renown Hungarian correspondence chess player are battling in their final matches for the attractive cup, and 25.000 Frt Prize money in Hungarian currency

The event produced a lot of valuable and interesting games, even during its preliminary round and we’ll publish the best games during the climax of the fight. To forecast the like winner is an impossible quest. Even such „dark horses" as Dezső Kovács, the ONLY player from the host city of Sopron shows a deep understanding of the game.

It is a great news for Hungary, that the new leadership of the Hungarian Chess Federation, inspired by its talented Vice-president George Rabovszky is inquiring to get the right of hosting the team championship of the European clubs in autumn of 2000, at Sopron. The final vote of decision about the matter will be held on 28 of February by the public of the Hungarian Chess Federation.
